GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) - On Tuesday, November 22, the Weld County District Attorney's Office donated 535 pounds of food to the Frontier House in Greeley, a rehabilitation center for community members battling mental illnesses, as part of the 2nd annual Weld DA Gives Thanks.
Frontier House has been in Greeley since 1990 and puts on a Thanksgiving Food Drive each year to offer their clients a traditional meal for the holiday. Frontier volunteers say the 535 pounds of donated food put them over the top, and will not only allow enough for the Thanksgiving meal, but Christmas and New Year's as well. Last year, the group fed nearly 100 people for Thanksgiving.
Deputy District Attorney Sarah McCutcheon, a member of the Frontier House Advisory Board, and fellow DDA Tate Costin started the food drive in 2015 following an office-wide fall health challenge to lose weight. That year, the goal was to raise 286 pounds of food, the amount of weight lost during the fall health challenge. This year, McCutcheon and Costin put the pressure on the more than 70 employees in the District Attorney's office and raised the bar to 500 pounds.
“This time of year is especially important to think about others before ourselves,” said Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke. “Frontier House has been a staple in our community for decades now, and the lives they touch year-round is inspiring. The least this office can do is pitch in and help the folks who need it most.”
