GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) - A 33-year-old Greeley man convicted of pimping several underage girls in Weld County was sentenced today to 248 years to life in the Department of Corrections, the maximum possible sentence based on the convictions at trial.

In August, after a 13-day trial, a jury convicted Paul Burman on 32 counts, some of which include Human Trafficking for Sexual Servitude, Pandering of a Child, Child Prostitution and Pimping of a Child. [For a full list, see below]

Burman, who went by the alias of “Haylo,” pimped several victims, both adults and teenagers under the age of 18, to engage in acts of prostitution with numerous men. One of his victims was as young as 15 years old.

“What he did to me and the other women caused significant trauma on my everyday life,” said one of the victims at today's sentencing. “He forced me to do things that are unbelievable. He raped me and made me feel worthless as a human being. He has the inability to change and will always be a repeat offender.”

According to court testimony, Burman arranged the meetings. He provided the victims with drugs and alcohol, gave them small amounts of money and booked hotel rooms for the victims to engage in sexual acts with men, sometimes on several occasions in one night. All of the money the victims were paid went to the defendant.

During the trial, witnesses testified that Burman would also use threats and violence to force the victims into prostitution. In one instance, Burman beat and sexually assaulted one of the girls for not making enough money and talking back to him.

“Those that engage in human trafficking, like the defendant, prey upon our children and we must fight to bring these people to justice,” said Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke. “Paul Burman took advantage of the vulnerable, but we sent a message to him and all the others who engage in this vile behavior: Your days of making money by sexually exploiting women are numbered.”

Burman was immediately transferred to the DOC following today's sentencing. Deputy District Attorneys Arynn Clark and Tamara Love prosecuted the case.
