GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – The man who pled guilty to groping a female student in a University of Northern Colorado dormitory shower in 2017 will spend the next 12 years in the Department of Corrections.

According to court documents, on February 4, 2017, the female victim was taking a shower in a female bathroom in Wilson Hall at UNC. While she was showering, she heard a male voice in the shower stall next to her.

She told police the defendant, 27-year-old Carlos Gallegos, asked her several questions before he looked at her over the stall and stared at her while she showered.

The victim says Gallegos, who was naked, then slid under the shower stall and entered the same stall she was showering in and said, “I’m just seeing how slippery the floors are.”

As the victim tried exiting the shower, the defendant blocked her path, reached under her towel and squeezed her left buttocks cheek.

He was originally charged with:

COUNT 1: SECOND DEGREE BURGLARY (F3)

COUNT 2: INVASION OF PRIVACY FOR SEXUAL GRATIFICATION (M1)

COUNT 3: UNLAWFUL SEXUAL CONTACT (M1)

On Friday afternoon, a judge sentenced Gallegos to a stipulated 12 years in the Department of Corrections and five years probation to be served once he's released from DOC.

Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark prosecuted this case.
