Crimes and Criminals - A Weld County Story

GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) -- The man deserved it, so the Greeley townspeople would tell you. He was a thief. A bully. A murderer. He got what he deserved.

So there he hanged, dressed in his suit, hair slicked back. It's the story of W.D. French, Greeley's first and only lynching victim. French's story is just one of many high-profile cases to grip not only Weld County but the state of Colorado as well. His infamous story was most certainly not the last to steal headlines.

This Friday, join us as we discuss French's lynching and the crimes that followed to commemorate the centennial celebration of the Weld County Courthouse.

Three generations of District Attorneys will discuss the crimes that have left people talking to this day. Hear the story of French, the murder of Gary Statler - a hotel heir, Renee Polreis - Greeley's 'Mommie Dearest,' and the murder of Tina Sandoval.

The presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. this Friday, June 23 in the Jury Assembly room, located in Plaza West. Feel free to bring a packed lunch!

Allow yourself 15 minutes to go through security. For more information or to reserve your spot, contact Karen Salaz, 970-475-2500.
