GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A Weld County man will spend the rest of his natural life behind bars after a jury convicted him of physically and sexually torturing a female he had been dating for a month back in October of 2021.
On Thursday afternoon, Weld County District Court Judge Annette Kundelius sentenced 41-year-old Tory Hammond to 96 years-to-life in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
In October of 2025, a jury convicted Hammond of physically and sexually assaulting the female victim, while holding her captive and restraining her with chains.
At one point, the defendant also used a power drill to drill into the victim’s leg during the attack.
“I didn’t think I was going to make it out of this alive,” the victim told the judge during Thursday’s sentencing. “When this happened, part of me was taken that I’ll never get back.”
On the night of the attack, the victim was able to escape while the defendant was sleeping.
“He basically set up a murder room,” Deputy District Attorney Amy Petri Beard said. “She believed she was going to die that night. She believed he was going to follow through with his plan to kill her. This is the plot of a horror movie, but it was a real-life nightmare for this victim.”
On the night of the attack, Weld County deputies responded to reports of a woman who was found naked with her arms in chains on Highway 85 and County Road 6 in Weld County.
“The facts of this case are disturbing,” Judge Kundelius said. “What you’ve put her through. I don’t know that you can make up a worse story about what you’ve done to somebody. You are a danger to this community.”
The defendant was on parole for an assault case out of Jefferson County and a stalking case out of Boulder County at the time of this attack.
Deputy District Attorneys Amy Petri Beard and Jessica Akers prosecuted this case.
