GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) –A 44-year-old man from Aurora will spend more than 150 years behind bars following his conviction on multiple drug distribution charges in Weld County.

Weld County District Court Judge Annette Kundelius sentenced Carlos Gonzalez-Del Hoyo last week to 159 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

In January, a Weld County jury found Gonzalez-Del Hoyo guilty of six counts related to drug distribution, including three counts of distributing methamphetamine and three counts of distributing fentanyl.

The Weld County Drug Task Force began investigating Gonzalez-Del Hoyo in September 2024 after receiving information that he was distributing large quantities of drugs in Weld County and northern Colorado.

In November 2024, Gonzalez-Del Hoyo was arrested during a traffic stop in Greeley while he was on parole for a motor vehicle theft conviction from Adams County. The defendant also sold narcotics to undercover officers on multiple occasions during the investigation, prior to the traffic stop.

During the stop, law enforcement seized approximately 11 pounds of methamphetamine and roughly 6,000 counterfeit pills containing fentanyl.

“This defendant possessed enough fentanyl to kill 88% of Weld County’s population if the drugs would have been disseminated in our community,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia said. “This sentence reflects the extreme danger this defendant’s large‑scale trafficking posed to Weld County. His actions were profit‑driven, and he preyed upon those with an addiction. We won’t tolerate this type of destruction in our community.  The Legislature has made clear that those who flood our communities with deadly narcotics must be held fully accountable, and we believe this sentence reflects that mandate.”

In addition to Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia, Deputy District Attorney Erin Vargas Gutierrez also prosecuted this case.
