GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A man will spend more than three decades behind bars after he was convicted last month of stabbing a Greeley police officer and assaulting another officer in 2023.
On Wednesday, Weld County District Court Judge Timothy Kerns sentenced 33-year-old Joshua Minteer to 35 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
In September, a jury convicted Minteer of attempted second-degree murder of a peace officer, second-degree assault of a peace officer, third-degree assault, harassment and resisting arrest.
The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on January 10, 2023, outside the Cold Weather Shelter in Greeley.
Greeley Police officers responded to reports that Minteer was assaulting staff and others. In addition, he was also threatening to kill responding peace officers.
When officers arrived, there was a brief foot pursuit. During the encounter, the defendant attacked one of the officers with a metal file, striking him in the chest. The officer’s ballistic vest prevented serious injury.
Minteer continued to fight officers and kicked another officer in the face before being arrested.
“These two officers were simply doing their job that night,” Deputy District Attorney Mikaela Fatzinger said. “This defendant’s violent actions could have easily resulted in the death of a police officer. We are thankful for the courage and professionalism of these officers and for the jury’s decision to hold this defendant accountable.”
In addition to Deputy District Attorney Mikaela Fatzinger, Deputy District Attorney Lacy Wells also prosecuted this case.
