GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A Weld County man will spend the next several decades behind bars for distributing mass amounts of methamphetamine in the community.
Last week, Weld County District Court Judge Anita Crowther sentenced 54-year-old Leroy Cerda to 50 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
In April of last year, Cerda sold half a pound of methamphetamine for $1,000 to undercover officers with the Weld County Drug Task Force.
A month later, the defendant sold another half a pound of methamphetamine again to undercover officers with the WCDTF for another $1,000.
In February, Cerda pled guilty to two counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, a Class 1 drug felony.
“I want to make something clear,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia said. “The Weld County Drug Task Force team goes after established drug dealers in our community, and this defendant was one of them. He preyed upon some of the most vulnerable by spreading this deadly poison throughout our community, and by seeking to make a profit off other people’s addictions. I hope this sends a message that if you are caught taking part in this type of criminal behavior in our community, you will be punished to the full extent of the law.”
