Jury convicts truck driver of killing family of five in I-25 crash

GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.)– A Weld County jury convicted a man of all charges related to a 2022 deadly crash on Interstate 25 that killed a family of five and severely injured another man.

On Wednesday, 27-year-old Jesus Puebla was found guilty of five counts of vehicular homicide, and one count each of vehicular assault, careless driving and reckless driving.

In addition, the jury also convicted Puebla of a commercial vehicle safety violation, and also found him guilty of not having a commercial driver’s license.

The crash happened on June 13, 2022 on I-25 near Highway 66 in Weld County. The defendant was driving a box truck when he slammed into a vehicle, killing a family of five who was travelling back home to Wyoming. The defendant also crashed into another vehicle, severely injuring the driver.

Immediately following the verdict Wednesday afternoon, the defendant was remanded.

He is currently in custody at the Weld County Jail awaiting a sentencing hearing scheduled for half a day on June 21st at 1:30 p.m. in Division 15.

Deputy District Attorneys Yvette Guthrie and Erin Vargas Gutierrez prosecuted this case.
