Hamdan, Musa

On Tuesday, a jury convicted Musa Hamdan 41, of the following charges:

1. COUNT 1-ASSAULT IN THE FIRST DEGREE (F3)

2. COUNT 2-ASSAULT IN THE SECOND DEGREE (F4)

3. COUNT 3-MENACING (F5)

On March 30, 2023, workers at the cold weather shelter off 28th Street in Greeley ran towards the sound of screaming coming from the shower stalls in the men’s bathroom. Upon arriving in the bathroom employees observed Musa Hamdan, on top of the victim striking him repeatedly with a knife handle. The Defendant was striking the victim with a knife handle because the blade to that knife broke off in the victim’s shoulder.

The Defendant was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Assault and Felony Menacing. While in custody at the Weld County Jail the Defendant assaulted four Weld County Sheriff’s Office Detentions deputies. Despite the victim not being present, the jury convicted the Defendant of the counts in under 15 minutes. The Judge then sentenced him to 20 years in the Department of Corrections.

Deputy District Attorney Skelton prosecuted this case, and at sentencing said, “This was an incredibly violent attack. We are extremely proud to have proven this case and are equally as grateful that the victim did not suffer the additional injuries that were intended to be inflicted upon him.”
