GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A Greeley man will spend the next 48 years in prison for a brutal 2017 stabbing that left a man dead.
A judge sentenced Aaron Hoult, 25, Wednesday afternoon to the maximum sentence under a plea agreement.
In April, Hoult plead guilty to one count of second-degree murder for killing Jose Pacheco at Pacheco’s Greeley home on August 16, 2017. Hoult faced 30 to 48 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
Firefighters initially responded to a call about a fire in a detached garage at a home on 11th street. When they arrived, crews found Pacheco stabbed to death in the detached garage where he lived.
“This defendant didn’t only take Mr. Pacheco’s life, but the manner in which he did so is unexplainable and brutal,” Weld Chief Deputy District Attorney Anthony Perea said. “He stabbed this man 21 separate times and then watched him bleed to death before starting the garage on fire, locking the door and leaving while Mr. Pacheco laid there lifeless. He absolutely deserves the maximum sentence in this case.”
