Greeley, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) - A 28-year-old Greeley man will spend the next decade behind bars after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child.
Nicholas Allen Lyons was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 20 years of sex offender intensive supervised probation (SOISP). Lyons pled guilty last month to two counts of attempted sexual assault on a child and two counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
Police reports show the investigation sparked in June 2016 after he threatened to kill himself. According to the affidavit, Lyons left behind a note saying “I have betrayed [them]…They have given me shelter and friendship then I commit pedophilia against them.”
Investigators later discovered he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old on at least four occasions between 2015 and 2016.
“There's nothing more repulsive and disturbing than adults taking advantage of and sexually assaulting young children,” District Attorney Michael Rourke said. “For at least the next 30 years, we will have a close eye on the defendant to make sure he never hurts a little girl again. We will not let him forget or dismiss the actions he took.”
Lyons will also be on the Sex Offender Registry for the remainder of his life.
Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark prosecuted the case.
