GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) - The Fort Lupton man arrested early Thanksgiving morning following a fatal DUI crash on Interstate 25 was formally charged today by the Weld County District Attorney's Office.
Alex Pablo Rodriguez, 25, is charged with Vehicular Homicide (F3), Vehicular Assault (F4) and Driving Under the Influence (M).
According to the affidavit, around 2:54 a.m. on November 24, Weld County Dispatch received several calls from citizens reporting a gray Jeep heading southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25. The driver of the Jeep was later identified as Rodriguez.
Minutes later, a Weld County deputy attempted to get Rodriguez's attention by turning on emergency lights, but reports show he continued down the wrong lanes. Rodriguez ultimately crashed head-on with another vehicle, driven by Nash Rider, 16, of Windsor, near milepost 231.
Rider was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Rider's current condition is unknown. His passenger, Kyle Nackos, 19, of Severance, was pronounced dead at the scene around 3:19 a.m. as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
Rodriguez was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries and later booked in the Weld County Jail, where he remains on a $100,000 bond.
The defendant will make his first formal court appearance on 12/15 at 8:30 a.m. in Division 15.
