GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A Greeley man will spend the next five decades in prison for shooting and killing a man during an armed robbery at a Greeley gas station in 2021.

On Wednesday, Weld County District Court Judge Marcelo Kopcow sentenced Trent O’neil, 24, to 55 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

On December 14, 2021, Greeley police were called to the Cosmic Market gas station on 23rd Avenue for a report of an armed man trying to steal a vehicle. Officers then learned that the gas station manager, 51-year-old Victor Martinez, had been shot during the incident.

Martinez was taken to a local hospital where he later died from a gunshot wound.

The defendant pled guilty to: second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, and third degree assault.

The co-defendant, Kyle Moore, has a jury trial scheduled to begin in June.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Patrick Roche and Deputy District Attorney Timothy McCormack prosecuted this case.
