GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – An Evans caregiver tasked with watching dementia patients at an assisted living facility made her first court appearance this week after being charged with neglect.
Briana Mashek, 27, of Evans, is facing five counts of at-risk neglect after she left her shift without notifying supervisors. According to the affidavit, another caregiver arrived at the Ashley Manor Assisted Living Facility in Evans on September 4 for her overnight shift when she found five patients without care or supervision.
The victims, ranging from 74 to 93-years-old, all require 24-hour care. One patient, according to the police report, fell from her chair and was left on the floor for more than four hours. All of the patients were left without food and medications and had not been repositioned or able to use the restroom for about six hours.
Mashek later told police, according to the affidavit, that she had not been getting along with her boss and decided to leave. She told an officer that she did not notify her boss or supervisor before leaving.
Mashek returns to court on 12/19. If all counts were to run consecutively, the defendant could face up to 7.5 years in the Weld County jail.
