GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A Garden City man will spend the next six decades behind bars for punching a woman in the face several times, choking her unconscious, and then holding her captive in his apartment.

Late last month, a Weld County district court judge sentenced Wade Egloff, 45, to 64 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

In July, a jury convicted Egloff of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 1st Degree Assault Strangulation, 2nd Degree Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Telephone Obstruction and False Imprisonment.

In March of last year, Garden City officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment located on 9th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the victim crying and bloody, and her face was bruised and swollen.

The victim told officers that she and the defendant got into an argument the night before. That’s when she said Egloff punched her multiple times in the face and choked her until she lost consciousness.

The victim said at one point, Egloff stepped outside for something, so she closed and locked the door to the apartment. However, he eventually got back into the apartment through a window and started punching her in the face again.

According to the victim, Egloff wouldn’t let her have access to her phone and wouldn’t let her leave his side. She told police he wouldn’t even let her use the restroom and made her urinate in bed. The defendant also made the victim take sleeping pills that were prescribed to him so that she wouldn’t run away when he was sleeping.

The defendant also told the victim she would have to tell people that she got into a fight with another female at a bar and that was the reason why her face appeared to have been beaten. The next day after Egloff beat her, the victim was able to access her phone and call 911.

“This defendant is a premier example of distorted masculinity,” Deputy District Attorney Chris Ponce said. “For too long he has used extreme physical violence against the women with whom he was intimately involved with to impose control and dominance over them. His 64 year prison sentence is a just retribution for the victim in this case, as well as his past victims, and will ensure that our community is safe from the poison of his toxic masculinity.”

Deputy District Attorney Chris Ponce and Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wrenn prosecuted this case.
