Weld Man Faces 16 to 30 Years in Prison for 2017 Homicide Case

GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A Weld County man pleaded guilty in a case that left one man dead in December of 2017 near Keenesburg.

Sammy Vega appeared in front of a judge Friday afternoon and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Investigators believe he shot cousins, Emmanuel Baca and Isael Baca, in rural Weld County south of Keenesburg near Interstate 76 on December 16, 2017.

Isael Baca survived the shooting. However, Emmanuel died from his gunshot wounds.

As part of the plea agreement, the remaining charges have been dismissed. He faces 16 to 30 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections for the second degree murder charge he pleaded guilty to.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 29 at 10:00 a.m.

Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke and Deputy District Attorney Travis Winter prosecuted this case.
