Man Found Guilty of Stabbing Motorist Over Minor Traffic Incident

GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – On Monday, a Weld County man was found guilty of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and First Degree Assault for stabbing a man last year after an argument regarding a traffic incident.

According to court documents, on March 12, 2017 shortly after 4:00 p.m., a Weld County Coroner’s investigator reported a fight between two motorists on 10th Street and 26th Avenue. Police later located and identified the suspect as Scott Hodson.

The victim arrived at the North Colorado Medical Center Emergency Department a few minutes after the incident with multiple stab wounds to his left upper arm, right upper arm, three wounds in his lower left abdomen and a serious wound to his left groin area.

The victim told police he almost got in an accident with Hodson near Alberto’s Restaurant on 11th Street. He said Hodson followed him through the parking lot to the intersection of 26th Avenue and 10th Street. At the intersection, the victim and Hodson exited their vehicles and confronted one another.

During the fight, the victim realized he had been stabbed several times and drove himself to the hospital with several stab wounds. The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a cut to his bladder, requiring the use of a catheter and surgical repair.

“The victim is lucky to be alive today,” Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke said. “We see a lot of awful things people do to one another. But this man took a knife and stabbed this victim several times over a petty traffic incident. He could have killed him and we absolutely will not tolerate senseless acts like this.”

A jury convicted Hodson of both charges Monday in Weld County District Court. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 22 at 8:30 a.m. He faces 10 to 64 years in the Department of Corrections.
