GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) - After a week-and-a-half long trial, a Weld County jury found a former District 6 special education assistant guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student and sending naked ‘selfies’ to other students.

Wednesday afternoon, Jerica Enriquez, 26, was found guilty of:

COUNT 1: SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A CHILD BY ONE IN A POSITION OF TRUST (F3)

COUNT 2: SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A CHILD: POSITION OF TRUST – VICTIM LESS THAN 15 AND AS PART OF A PATTERN OF ABUSE (F3)

COUNT 3: OBSCENITY (F6)

COUNT 4: SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A CHILD (F4)

According to court documents, a school resource officer received word about a possible relationship going on between Enriquez and a student at Jefferson Junior High School in 2016.

Further investigation led officers to a 14-year-old male student, who later told authorities that he and Enriquez had sex at least two times at a Greeley Park.

Two other juvenile males also told detectives they received nude pictures of the defendant on their cellphones. Screenshots on one of the victim’s phones showed Enriquez video chatting with him while she was naked, kissing him and displaying a negative pregnancy test.

After the judge read the verdict to the court Wednesday, the defendant was immediately taken into custody on no bond.

“This defendant was someone who was supposed to lead and guide these students on a better path,” District Attorney Michael Rourke said. “All kids are vulnerable, but these kids are at an alternative school for a reason and are even more at risk than other kids their age. She took advantage of that. She took advantage of their vulnerability and fortunately was caught and will now have to face some serious consequences.”

She faces 12 years to life in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 9th at 2:30.

Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark and Deputy District Attorney Bailey Nelson prosecuted this case.
